School is 'making good progress'

STANBRIDGE Primary School in Downend is looking to the future after receiving a second positive inspection.

Government inspectors who visited the South Gloucestershire school last month said it has made good progress since being subject to Ofsted special measures in June last year.

The team praised progress since the previous monitoring inspection in November 2011, highlighting improvements in the school's teaching and learning as well as its leadership and management.

The school is now looking forward to building on these improvements with the appointment of Faye Bertham as its permanent head teacher from September 2012.

Ms Bertham has been working as one of two partner heads at the school since last year.

Chairman of governors Jim Lott said: "On behalf of the governors I would like to thank the staff and children for all their hard work and dedication in achieving our latest Ofsted grading as 'making good progress' in all areas.

"I know that we still have some way to go before we are out of special measures but we are pleased with two 'good progress' judgements in both inspections and look forward to building on this excellent work in the coming months."

● Last month the Post reported that six footballers from the school will play at Wembley next month before the League Two Play-Off Final after winning the southern final of a tournament run by the npower Football League.
